Corona Virus: Six Things Thriving Sales

As the global epidemic of Corona intensifies, a number of traders watch the trade collapse, while others drown.

We are busy just as we are busy at Christmas time, said the owner of the electronic coffee business, adding, We sell weakness.

Our tennis tables are out - it's now new toilet paper, says an outdoor game distributor on the same site.

As families get stuck at home, they are eager to find ways to keep their minds and bodies active, well-nourished and refreshed, as their purchasing choices reveal.

What are booming goods?

1. Bicycles and sports equipment

Bicycle sales are increasing both for sports and for travel in safer ways.

People think they want independence, says Will Butler Adams, CEO of Brompton folding bike.

I think UK sales in the whole sector are likely to have increased by about 15 percent.

Meanwhile, the London Cycle workshop is busy twice as busy in normal days, providing maintenance services for older bicycles to customers who try to avoid public transport or who are just looking for something to do.

The Halfords store also points to a rise in bike sales, and says, People who cannot go out still want to do gyms indoors.

Toby Clark, of Mintel, for market research, says his teams are seeing reports of very high sales of home sports equipment, as people try to make up for their inability to go to the gym now.

It is supported by John Lewis. The store witnessed a noticeable increase in-home sports equipment and other fitness products.

2. Indoor and outdoor games

Game provider Andy Pereford says he has sold all his stocks of outdoor tennis tables and a shipment arriving this week has already sold out as well.

I sold 124 tables last week, he said, adding, In the same week last year, I only managed to sell 15.

The requests began when the government said that schools should close.

Andy, whose home organization is located on the outskirts of Bristol, has sold an impressive amount of pool tables as well.

Its pool billiard pool has halved, from 500 to 250.

3. Home and garden items

Phil Jones from Just Sid at Wrexham, which sells a wide variety of plant seeds, says he should stop taking more orders after an attack on essential items including carrots, lettuce and tomatoes.

Two of the major seed companies, Marshalls and Satins, have stopped answering the phone.

For some buyers, there is concern about the possibility of running out of fresh vegetables, but Phil says that many are just looking for an activity.

They intend to work on the vegetable patch for years, which is an educational thing that can be done with children, he added.

People are shouting out of panic, says another specialist trader, Franchi Cedis, who has temporarily closed his website.

Inside homes, more and more people take sewing and knitting as a way to fight the boredom of quarantine.

London-based Liberty store says sales of sewing accessories have now increased by 380% from last year, while purchases of handicraft equipment have increased by 228%.

4. Reading materials

Another popular purchase among people who have time right now is to sit with a good book. Surprisingly, perhaps, there is a great demand for fictional narratives.

And ranked second on the list of best sellers this week with Amazon UK, the novel Eyes of Darkness by Dean Koontz. Although it was written in 1981, it describes a virus called Wuhan-400, in what appears to be a strange prediction of the Coronavirus.

Another well-sold novel is The Plague by French writer Albert Camus. British publisher Penguin said the novel's sales in the last week of February were 150% more than last year, and it is now reprinting the book. Sales also rose sharply in France and Italy.

5. Electrical products

As supermarket managers tell us, there are more than a billion pounds in food value in our homes than they were before the storage attack began.

But where did it all go? You have to have a place to store it.

As a result, refrigerators and freezers topped the list of what people are searching for in electronic markets.

There is an attack on laptops, and also on office equipment, because many find laxity on the sofa not the best way to work.

Dixons Carvon said that it has seen very good sales of home business equipment (laptops, printers), home entertainment (mobile phones, game consoles) and for living at home (refrigerators, refrigerators, kitchen appliances), and sales have increased by 23% compared to previous sales in The store itself.

6. Coffee

RiveCove, which sells coffee, had to increase its staff to handle the doubling demand.

We have 11 team members and we need five more, said Vicky Hodge, who runs a coffee-making and seed-milling project.

Vicky explains that people were buying their coffee for consumption in their offices, now they are buying it for homes.

While we had one request from the office, ten people are now ordering it from the living room.
